Why PM-KUSUM Matters
This scheme is a win-win for farmers and the environment. It reduces electricity demand on the grid, cuts down diesel usage, and helps India move towards its renewable energy goals while empowering rural communities.
Components of PM-KUSUM
-
Component A – Setting up decentralized grid-connected renewable power plants (up to 2 MW capacity) on barren or cultivable land.
-
Component B – Installation of standalone solar pumps to reduce dependency on diesel pumps.
-
Component C – Solarization of existing grid-connected pumps, allowing farmers to use solar power for irrigation and sell excess power to the grid.
